Famine history trip
The senior room accompanied by Mr Hayes visited Uillinn, the West Cork Arts Centre in Skibbereen to see the 'Coming Home': Art and the Great Famine exhibition. They got a guided tour of all the paintings and sculptures on show that all depict scenes from the Famine. They also got to do a hands on art workshop, making boats from a range of materials which represented the millions that emigrated on coffin ships around the world. To tie in with this they then visited Skibbereen Heritage centre where they had a lovely tour around the Famine exhibition. The tour was full of some very insightful history and stories. To finish off the day the children visited one of the mass graves from the Famine at Abbeystrewry graveyard.
