Dear Parents and Children,
I hope you all had a good week and you managed well with the school work. I really enjoyed receiving your completed activities via Seesaw. The work for this week follows the same structure as last week, as always only complete as much of it as you can.
I will be putting some additional activities on Seesaw during the week. These are only to support the work being covered in the books so don’t feel under pressure to complete them. If any of the children would like additional activities or support with any of their school work please contact me by emailing [email protected].
I look forward to hearing from you during the week and seeing your wonderful work, keep up all the hard work!
Kind regards and safe wishes,
Ann Marie Daly

Dear Parent/guardian
I hope you are all keeping well. Below is a suggested plan of work for this week. As mentioned in my previous emails, you don’t need to complete the work, it is there as an option. Please do not put yourself or your child under pressure to complete this work.
The week of the 15th of June will be our last week posting work. No academic work will be posted from now on as the school would have closed on the 22nd of June
Book rental returns – Could the parents of the children who took up the book rental scheme last year, please return the books to the school on Saturday the 20th of June between 10.30am & 12.30am please.
Kind regards
Mr Hayes

Research Project:
A Botanical Art competition for the senior classes. I would like an art poster and I would like a small project based on the flower you pick. So spend this week researching your chosen flower under the following headings:
Prize for the winner is a homework voucher for September and a small prize suited to the individual winner. The current sixth class cannot avail of the H.W. voucher but a larger prize will be awarded to one of them in September should they be announced the winner.
Botanical Art Competition / Research Project
Who: This Competition is open to children in 4th, 5th, and 6th Class in Drinagh National School.
What: Botanical Art is art about plants and flowers. For many years, botanical art was very popular and was used by both artists and scientists. You can see some examples of Botanical Art in the National Gallery of Ireland at the link below:
https://www.nationalgallery.ie/art-and-artists/exhibitions/drawn-from-nature-online
Why: We are having an art competition to see your great drawing and creativity skills!
How: You will need to look at the list of flowers below and then research them online to find out things like what they look like, how big they tend to grow and what sort of animals come to visit them. Then on an A4 page you simply draw and colour in the flower and write the name underneath in English and in Latin. There is an example of the next page of the template. You can either draw one plant, or them all, it’s up to you! But if you wish to do more than one, please use a separate page for each one. Here is the list of plants
When: The competition will be open until Friday 19th June 3pm. The Winner will be announced the week after that and their work published on our lockdown page. Please email a photo of your art and your project to me at [email protected]

I hope you all had a very enjoyable June bank holiday weekend and are enjoying the extremely fine weather.
If you have any questions at all about the work or anything else, please don’t hesitate to contact me via my email address [email protected]. The plan below is for the week ahead.

There is no substitution for reading, so please encourage your child to read a variety of text.
You are and always will be your child's primary educator. If you decide that the work being sent home by the teacher is unnecessary, then don't do it. Dear Parent/guardian
I hope you all are well!
For science this week – the children have been asked to make a one minute science video and enter the Reel Life Science video competition – (one per family)
I have also included an attachment for the sixth class – transition to secondary school – Big Fish to Little Fish PDF
Guidelines - your child should spend between one & two hours each day (Mon – Fri) at their school work.
There is no substitution for reading, so please encourage your child to read a variety of text.
If you need to contact me for anything please email [email protected]
You are and always will be your child's primary educator. If you decide that the work being sent home by the teacher is unnecessary, then don't do it. Children learn in many different ways and not just through "book learning". Some families will be able to do the schoolwork - others will be under pressure to get it done. Please don't be under any pressure to get the school work prescribed completed.

5th of May 2020 to 8th of May 2020
Dear Parent/guardian
I hope you all are well!
As announced schools will remain closed until September. This is very disappointing especially for our current sixth class.
I hope to have a graduation ceremony for sixth class in September/October, but again this will depend on social distancing rules and any health and safety guidelines in at that time.
Also all teachers will be posting work on the website on a Saturday evening instead of Sunday evening from next week onwards, this will hopefully make it easier for working parents.
Guidelines - your child should spend between one & two hours each day (Mon – Fri) at their school work.
There is no substitution for reading, so please encourage your child to read a variety of text.
If you need to contact me for anything please email [email protected]

Dear Parent/guardian
I hope you are all well, just a quick note regarding your child’s school work.
Your child should spend between one & two hours each day (Mon – Fri) at their school work.
Mr. Hayes
