The school has a thriving organic garden where the children grow a huge variety of produce e.g. peas, beans , lettuce, onions, cabbage, potatoes as well as flowers and a variety of soft fruit. Each day the organic waste i.e fruit skins, tea bags etc is collected and put in our Big Pig composter. This compost is then used to enrich the soil in the garden. Each year we try to introduce a new fruit or vegetable to the variety we grow. Families volunteer to look after the garden during the summer holidays. Rain water is collected in our water butt and used in the garden during the dry spells.
In September the garden produce is harvested and the senior classes make a very healthy vegetable soup for everybody in school. By the time the children reach 6th class they have a wealth of knowledge about the growth cycle of their food.
